Embark on a miniature taxation adventure with the SAIT!
The SAIT will be hosting its second annual student conference in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape in February next year. This event will coincide with SAIT’s first Tax Amazing Race which will be held on the same day as the conference. The race will give you a fun and interactive opportunity to learn and apply many of the fundamental skills that are necessary to make your mark in tax.
The Tax Amazing Race will be based on the Amazing Race television show where contestants strive to arrive first at "Pit Stops" at the end of each leg of the race to win prizes. Contestants travel to and within multiple countries in a variety of transportation modes. Clues provided in each leg lead the teams to the next destination or direct them to perform a task, either together or by a single member.
The Event:

  • Honours students will participate in teams (eight to ten individuals per team).
  • Third-year students will act as a support base for honours students partaking in the race by providing "phone-a-friend” style assistance and by cheering on their team in the race.
  • Various activities will be performed at different theme parks and campus locations in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.
  • The activities will be physical and practical problems that will need to be solved in a creative manner by applying tax knowledge.

Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.

The Act requires that a minimum academic and practical requirments be set to register with a controlling body. Click here for the minimum requirements of SAIT.
