Overview & Course Content
This seminar will focus on a selection of topics from the International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities (SMEs).
SMEs compile financial statements primarily for the use of owner-managers, financiers and tax authorities. The traditional emphasis and the comprehensive nature of the disclosure requirements of public listed companies will therefore not necessarily be addressed. Instead, the aim will be to concentrate on the basic application of the following sections from the IFRS for SMEs:
- Scope of IFRS for SMEs
- Section 7 – Statement of Cash Flows
- Section 13 – Inventories
- Section 16 – Investment Property
- Section 17 – Property, plant and equipment;
- Section 18 – Intangible Assets
- Section 20 – Leases
- Section 23 – Revenue
- Section 27 – Impairment of Assets
- 2015 amendments to IFRS for SMEs that become effective on 1 January 2017

Herman van Dyk CA(SA), RA, MCom(SA and international tax)
Herman van Dyk is the Programme Leader for Taxation at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. He is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and Associate Chartered Accountant (England & Wales). He graduated with an MCom in South African and International Taxation cum laude. He received an academic award for the research part of this qualification titled Grounds for allowing a tax deduction for employee share incentives (best dissertation in the class). In 2012 he received the Rapport Top Lecturer Award for inspirational teaching and academic leadership in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. In 2014, he received an Institutional Teaching Excellence Award. Herman has contributed to several accredited South African and international journals.

Payments & Cancellations
- All payments must be made by EFT or by credit card, at least 3 working days before commencement of an event.
- Kindly note that should payment not been received 2 days after the event, legal action will be taken
- Proof of payment will be requested at registration, if payment at that point in time has not been reflected on SAIT's bank account.
- Only written notice of cancellation will be recognised.
- If the cancellation occurs more than 4 working days prior to the event no cancellation fee will be charged.
- If the cancellation occurs less than 4 working days prior to the event a 100% cancellation fee will apply.
- Delegates who book and fail to attend will be liable for the full event fee.
- SAIT's liability in the case of an event being cancelled will be limited to a refund or credit of the event fee.
