Overview
The Customs Control and Customs Duty Acts have been drafted with the view of aligning the current customs legislation with international requirements set out in the Revised Kyoto Convention on the simplification and harmonisation of customs procedures. This legislation was gazetted in 2014 and is expected to come into effect during the course of 2016. As such it is vital that all customs stakeholders understand the new regulatory regime. This seminar is aimed at giving you an overview of the most crucial areas of the new legislation.

- The background: why were the acts rewritten?
- An overview of the most important changes brought about by the Customs Control and Custom Duty Acts of 2014
- The expected date when the Acts will become effective and the ongoing drafting of Rules under the acts
- Tariff classification of goods

- Payment of duties, penalties and interest
- Refunds and drawbacks
- The assessment of duties, including self-assessment at clearance, and the process for declaring inaccuracies in self-assessment

Zama Mgwedli
Zama Mgwedli is a Partner in Customs @ Wylie, prior to joining the firm she held the position of Specialist in Customs and Excise Litigation in the SARS’ Legal and Policy Division at SARS’ Head Office in Pretoria. Here she was involved in the litigation of contentious customs and excise-related issues. She also served in an advisory capacity to the Chairperson of the Customs Operations Appeal Committee and the Chairperson of the National Appeals Committee.
Her expertise includes inter alia: valuations, rules of origin, tariff determinations, detentions and seizures, post clearance audit investigations, rebate and dispute resolution.
Zama holds a Master of Laws Degree in International Customs Law and Administration from the University Of Canberra, Australia.

Payments & Cancellations
- All payments must be made by EFT or by credit card, at least 3 working days before commencement of an event.
- Kindly note that should payment not been received 2 days after the event, legal action will be taken
- Proof of payment will be requested at registration, if payment at that point in time has not been reflected on SAIT's bank account.
- Only written notice of cancellation will be recognised.
- Conditions:
- If the cancellation occurs more than 4 working days prior to the event no cancellation fee will be charged.
- If the cancellation occurs less than 4 working days prior to the event a 100% cancellation fee will apply.
- Delegates who book and fail to attend will be liable for the full event fee.
- SAIT's liability in the case of an event being cancelled will be limited to a refund or credit of the event fee.
