The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) held a scoping meeting on 25 January in Rosebank as the first step in the formal process to develop the occupational qualification Tax Technician.

The meeting was attended by various industry professional body stakeholders, including SAICA, SAIPA, ICB, SAIBA, CIS and FPI, as well as industry employers.

The Southern African Institute for Business Accountants commended the initiative by SAIT and there was consensus amongst the industry that SAIT should be appointed by the QCTO as the Development Quality Partner for the qualification.

In addition, the ICB also nominated SAIT as the Quality Assessment Partner of the QCTO for setting the national examination for the Tax Technician qualification once registered. The nomination was seconded by SAIBA, CSSA and FPI.

SAIPA's Technical Executive, Faith Ngwenya, also nominated itself (SAIPA) for the appointment of Assessment Quality Partner.
