1 July 2013, section 240 of the Tax Administration Act (28 of 2011) will
require all natural persons who provides tax advice or completes (or assists in
completing) tax returns to register with both:
as a tax practitioner AND
- a recognised controlling body.

African Institute of Tax Practitioners (SAIT)
of Accounting and Commerce
African Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA)
African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA)
African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA)
- General Council of the Bar of South Africa, Bar
Councils and Societies of Advocates
- Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA)
- Law Societies established in terms of Chapter 3
of the Attorneys Act, 1979.
who provide tax services for no consideration or to an employer or under the
direct supervision of a tax practitioner are not required to register.
Existing tax practitioners
tax practitioners (registered with SARS) and already members of a recognised
controlling body, have to update their details on the TP-1 form to indicate to
which controlling body they belong.
has to be done by logging on to SARS eFiling on www.sarsefiling.co.za and performing
the following steps:
STEP 1: click on SERVICES
STEP 2: click on TAX PRACTITIONER REGISTRATION under Additional Services
STEP 3: update your details (including the
name of your controlling body) on the TP-01 form, tick the box to confirm and
click on SUBMIT
