New branch offices for Gauteng Central and South
A new SARS branch office will be opened in Boksburg during the first
week of May 2014. This office will be representative of the new footprint
of SARS offices and will be similar to the Edenvale branch. Although the
current Dube branch in Soweto will remain, it will relocate to where the
Nedbank branch used to be and a new branch will open on Chris Hani Drive during
the second week in May 2014.
The Randburg branch office will be upgraded and a Tax Practitioners Unit
will be opened. A friendly request was raised by SARS not to use the
Randburg branch office unless absolutely necessary due to the construction and
inconvenience during the upgrade. SARS has apologised upfront for the
inconvenience that the construction will cause. This was already
communicated to the tax practitioners in the Randburg region. SARS also
stated that parking will create a problem and urged the tax practitioners to
arrive earlier than normal for their appointments. SARS will monitor the
increase in workload at the surrounding SARS branches and increase the capacity
The SARS national guideline regarding the length of an appointment is
one hour. In order for SARS to balance their capacity, please provide
detail regarding the query for discussion when requesting an appointment.
This will enable SARS to allocate either an hour or 30 minute appointments
to the tax practitioners. The 30 minute appointments will be sufficient
for most of the queries dealt with.
Please inform SARS if you as the tax practitioner are unable to honor
the appointment. It was also emphasised that these appointments are only
available for tax practitioners who are registered at a RCB. The
validation of membership for the Gauteng Central and South Region will be
confirmed by SARS. SARS will report the detail of the tax practitioners to the
RCB should they not honor the appointments granted to them.
Lead time of appointments
The lead time for an hour meeting is approximately 4 weeks and for a 30
minute appointment one week. SARS will investigate the increase in
capacity for appointments and will monitor the impact of the re-allocation of
resource on the other service lines.
SARS urged the tax practitioners to please follow the correct escalation
process available to sort out issues.
