The annual employer reconciliation deadline is 30 May 2014. The reconciliation is for the period 1 March 2013 to 28 February 2014. Employers must file as soon as possible to allow sufficient time to resolve issues which may arise.

Recommended steps to ensure the 2014 Employer Annual Reconciliation period goes smoothly:

Step 1: Visit the SARS website to download the required e@syFile™ employer software.  e@syFile™ Employer has been updated recently.

Important: Before downloading the latest version of e@syFile™ Employer from the SARS website, it is recommended to perform a back-up of current data and information on computer. Instances has been reported where the latest version of e@syFile™ Employer deletes current / past data.

Step 2: Import the electronic IRP5 files in CSV format from your current payroll system into e@syFile™ Employer.

Step 3: SARS recommends that employers prior to submitting the reconciliation – ensure that critical items be updates, like the postal address information of employees, as the old unstructured postal address format won't be accepted by e@syFile™ Employer.

Employers are warned that the law empowers SARS to impose penalties for failing to submit returns, or late or inaccurate submissions, or reconciliations which don't balance.
