Itron Metering Solution (Pty) Ltd ("Itron”)  has applied to ITAC for a rebate provision on import duties on components for the manufacture of electricity meters. In its application Itron submitted that, among other things, electricity meters are currently duty free, whilst some components used in the manufacture of electricity meters attract import duties, resulting in an additional disadvantage to the local industry which is facing fierce competition from low-priced imports of electricity meters, particularly from China.

Comments or any objections to the above applications are to be made within four (4) weeks of the date of notice. For more information please click here.
