As the perception of ethical decay increases in South Africa, some individuals and companies could be tempted to believe that venturing into questionable behaviour may be justifiable.

This two-part webinar will explore the ethical challenges that practitioners face in their role as quasi-legal advisors. It will delve into the risks of taking sole comfort from the law and rules, and how that itself can erode into unethical behaviour.

The first webinar will focus on understanding ethics past the popular view of it relating purely to economic crime and the risk of a lack of true ethical awareness for tax practitioners.

The second webinar will tackle the differences between the law and ethics, the need for ethical decision-making and how to avoid ethical blind spots.

Course content

The below content will be discussed at both sessions of this webinar series:

  • Recap of webinar 1
  • Your inherent decision-making style
  • The law versus ethics
  • The need for ethical decision making

Lorraine’s study of ethics began when she worked as a journalist, initially at Caxton community newspapers and later at the Sunday Times. Challenged by social injustices and apathetic responses, she responded by studying law and obtained her LLB at the University of South Africa.

She won an inaugural Rising Star award (national talent award across all sectors) in 2012 for her approach and achievements in driving ethics in the corporate environment.

The institutionalisation of ethics is her passion, especially training and creative solutions to assist stakeholders embrace ethics, as well as everything to do with whistleblowing and ethics investigations. She does, however, have experience in the “A-Z” of ethics management.
