Join us on 22 September 2015 at 15h00 for a webinar on Company distributions.

This webinar will cover the principles of dividends tax as well as distributions from contributed tax capital from the perspective of both the company and the holder of shares. The tax implications of various company distributions will be explained including cash dividends, dividends in specie, deemed dividends, distributions form contributed tax capital, liquidation/deregistration distributions as well as dividend stripping schemes.


Mr Herman Viviers

Herman is a senior lecturer in taxation at the Potchefstroom campus of the North-West University (NWU). He lectures taxation to honours chartered accountancy (CTA) degree students. He received the award as the best lecturer on the NWU's Potchefstroom Campus for 2013 as well as the Vice-Chancellor's Prestigious Award for Teaching Excellence as the best lecturer over all three the campuses of the NWU in 2013. In 2014 he received a National Commendation Award from the Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association of South Africa (HELTASA) and the Council on Higher Education (CHE) as part of the National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards 2014.

He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, has a Master's degree in Taxation and completed his articles at PWC. He lectured taxation on the Master's as well as the Honours level at Stellenbosch University and was responsible for the taxation component of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the Stellenbosch Business School. Since joining the NWU in 2012, Herman has been involved in presenting technical training and workshops for professional bodies. He is also a presenter of the Tax Professional Knowledge Competency Assessment Preparation course preparing candidates for the SAIT Knowledge Competency assessment since 2013. Herman has also been selected as one of SAICA’s most outstanding CA(SA)’s under age of 35 as part of the SAICA Top 35-Under 35 CA(SA) competition for 2015.

Herman regularly publishes in accredited academic journals as well as popular tax and accountancy magazines and has presented tax papers at both local as well as international conferences.

Payments & Cancellations

  • All payments must be made by EFT or by credit card, at least 3 working days before commencement of an event.
  • Kindly note that should payment not been received 2 days after the event, legal action will be taken
  • Proof of payment will be requested at registration, if payment at that point in time has not been reflected on SAIT's bank account.
  • Only written notice of cancellation will be recognised.
  • Conditions:
    • If the cancellation occurs more than 30 days prior to the event no cancellation fee will be charged.
    • If the cancellation occurs less than 30 but more than 10 days prior to the event a 50% cancellation fee will apply.
    • If the cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the event a 100% cancellation fee will apply.
  • Delegates who book and fail to attend will be liable for the full event fee.
  • SAIT's liability in the case of an event being cancelled will be limited to a refund or credit of the event fee.



Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.
