Personal income tax (PIT) is the largest single source of the total tax revenue collection: SARS collected R389 billion in PIT during the past financial year. With Treasury targeting R1.43 trillion in gross tax revenue by 2018/19 (from R1.06 trillion today), it is clear that SARS will have to continue to drive compliance rigorously and relentlessly for individuals.

This seminar is focused exclusively on PIT, and is aimed at equipping you with the best practise methodology, skills and knowledge necessary to serve your clients in filing their personal income tax returns with confidence and integrity. It will cover the personal income tax fundamentals and update you on all the relevant changes to the tax legislation and rules, including the impact of the changes introduced by the retirement reform.

The 2016 personal income tax filing season is expected to open at the beginning of July. The first period provisional tax return relating to the 2017 tax year is due at the end of August 2016. Attending this seminar will ensure that you have the relevant information to prepare for this year’s tax filing season.

Shohana Mohan

Shohana Mohan is an Associate Director in the Global Mobility Services & Employment Tax Advisory division at KPMG, South Africa. She worked at one of the big-four audit firms from 2001 to 2007 in their international executive services department where she specialised in expatriate and personal income tax compliance and advisory, including local employment tax advisory. In October 2007 she joined a second-tier audit firm where she headed up the expatriate tax division with a key focus on providing cross border employment tax services for international hires working in South Africa and outbound assignments to the rest of Africa. In September 2012, she joined KPMG in their global mobility and employment tax advisory department where she focuses on cross border employment consulting, expatriate tax remuneration planning and structuring, drafting and implementation of model international assignment policy parameters, personal income tax compliance, and expatriate payroll tax advisory in South Africa and the rest of Africa. She has presented as a panelist on various forums locally and internationally.

Payments & Cancellations

  • All payments must be made by EFT or by credit card, at least 3 working days before commencement of an event.

  • Proof of payment will be requested at registration, if payment at that point in time has not been reflected on SAIT's bank account.
  • Only written notice of cancellation will be recognised.
  • Conditions:
    • If the cancellation occurs more than 4 working days prior to the event no cancellation fee will be charged.
    • If the cancellation occurs less than 4 working days prior to the event a 100% cancellation fee will apply.
  • Delegates who book and fail to attend will be liable for the full event fee.
  • SAIT's liability in the case of an event being cancelled will be limited to a refund or credit of the event fee.
