The Tax Faculty together with Nexus Training Academy will present a two-part webinar series covering key discussion points on ethics in professional fields of practice.

Course Content

Module 1: 11 August 2017

The first webinar of the two sessions will feature discussions around foundational elements of business ethics as applicable to the tax practitioner, and will include discussion points covering the following:

  • An overview of an ethical operating system
  • Defining the concept of professionalism
  • Ethical decision-making

In this initial session, reference will be made to recent business ethics and compliance trends, current and relevant ethical dilemmas and the importance of response strategies.

As a conclusion to the first webinar session, the attending group will be canvassed on current and prevailing ethical dilemmas being experienced within the tax profession. These issues will be assessed and will frame content discussion points for the second webinar session.

Module 2: 25 August 2017

The second webinar session of the series will address the following elements of business ethics in the tax profession:

  • Building and sustaining an ethical culture
  • Relevant codes of conduct
  • Illustrations of typical complaints received by professional regulating bodies
  • Considerations in respect of “corruption” and tax practitioner obligations
  • Current and prevailing dilemmas faced by the tax practitioner emanating from the first webinar


Module 2: Adv. Werner Bouwer, Director of Nexus Training Academy

Advocate Werner Bouwer is a Director of Nexus Training Academy, and a Director of Nexus Forensic Services since 2006. He has over 22 year’s professional experience and is an expert in training on topics related to governance, investigation of white collar crime and ethics.

Before joining Nexus, Werner was a principal with Deloitte Forensic and Dispute Services.
Werner holds the following qualifications:

  • B Iuris (cum laude) from Unisa
  • LLB (cum laude) from Unisa
  • Certificate in Labour Relations (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria
  • Master’s Degree in Forensic Accounting and Auditing from North West University
  • Facilitator Learning Program and Assessor & Moderator Program from Pro-Active College

5 hours of verifiable output TaxCPD in Ethics & Standards will be awarded and issued provided members attended both modules. In addition to attendance, members are also required to successfully complete the required CPD verifiable questionnaires.TAX CPD points/units.
