SAIT attended the SARS West Rand (Roodepoort, Randfontein & Krugersdorp) stakeholders meeting on 27 March 2014.

The matters discussed at this meeting are as follows:

1.     Would it be possible to obtain an escalation list in West Rand?

The branch managers' details can be found in the SARS branches should a taxpayer wish to

        escalate a matter.

2.     To which email address must appointments be sent?

3.     When will RFR’s be made available on eFiling?

This must be escalated to Head Office.  SAIT has already taken this up with Head Office but it was

communicated that this is one of the agenda items on the modernisation program. No final date for

completion of this request was provided.

4.    Power of attorneys

It was reiterated that two POAs are needed when a client appoints a firm or the CEO and the clerks

then represent the clients – one appointing the firm/CEO and another one issued by the firm/CEO

that appoints the clerk.  SARS states that these requirements are on a regular basis not met by

        various tax practitioners.

5.    SARS training

A session was held yesterday in Roodepoort office.  The dates and topics are on SARS’ website

and SARS urges all members (especially new graduates) to attend.  This will greatly assist them to

ensure that they do things correctly from the moment they enter practice.

Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.
