Members have informed us that the SARS Call Centre is advising tax practitioners that the turn-around time for completion of a document verification at SARS has been extended from 30 working days to 60 working days.  SAIT recently attended a SARS Stakeholder meeting at the Alberton SARS offices, where we raised this concern.  One of the Gauteng South audit managers was present at the meeting and he clarified that the extension is due to the audit backlog they are experiencing after the December/January break.  Once the backlog is under control, the turn-around time should return to normal.  Please note that the decision to extend the TAT was made by SARS management on Monday 8 February.

Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.
