Ithuba Tax Professional Bursary Programme


This bursary programme assist participants in achieving the Occupational Tax Professional Qualification. The prestigious qualification will provide successful learners with the advanced skills to practise as tax consultants and advisors. The Occupational Certificate: Tax Professional Qualification (NQF 8) leads to membership at advisory level with the South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT) and the bespoke designation of Tax Advisor South Africa, TA (SA).

Our flexible, engaging and practice-focused environment will provide you with the necessary skills required of professional tax practitioners in the twenty-first century. Unlike traditional education models, this certificate is built upon practical simulations, ensuring learning is fit for purpose and simulates real-world practice.

Do I meet the initial application criteria?

a  You are a South African citizen

a  Your race is African Black or Coloured (residing in the Western or Northern Cape) OR you have a disability

a  You have a valid NQF 7 qualification in the field of accounting, finance or tax law

a  You have at least three years’ working experience within the tax field

What is required to be selected?

When will I complete programme?

The programme will run from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020. If successful throughout the continuous assessments you will write the final exam, known as the external integrated summative assessment (EISA), on 20 and 21 February 2020.


What will I get upon completion of the programme?

       NQF level 8 Occupational Certificate: Tax Professional Qualification (click here for more information)

       Tax Advisor (SA) designation

       Option to apply for M Com Tax or H Dip Tax

How will it help me and my practice?

Apart from providing you with a prestigious designation and qualification, this programme will propel your tax advisory career. Mentors from well-known tax advisory firms in the industry will be specifically contracted to support the project and provide you with exposure to advisory problem solving, opinions and dispute resolution.

In addition, we have embedded practice management workshops which focus on the “soft” skills (strategy, leadership, management and client skills) required in order to run a successful practice. Business coaches will support you through your journey.

Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.
